“One who conquers other is strong; One who conquers oneself is mighty” Tao
Healthy, Relaxing, Positive Yoga in a Clean, Yoga-friendly environment
Our philosophy
Making ourselves better humans through good health, positive thinking, positive actions, positive intentions. As we improve ourselves, we improve the World.
We attend Yoga classes to be healthy, to feel good, to be HAPPY!
Yoga is not a competition. We do not compete with others or even ourselves. We let go of judgment, of others and especially of ourselves. There is no perfect pose. The best and only pose is one that provides safety and maximum benefits. Let go of ego! We attend Yoga classes just to practice, to enjoy, to feel good, to be healthy. We are here for the experience of life!
Breathing is vital to life! Breathing is central to any Yoga practice and too our health. At Yoga Zion, we focus on helping everyone with healthy breathing. Breathing should be natural, calm, slow, deep and diaphragmatic. Short shallow or “chest,” and “reverse” breathing are symptoms of a stressful life style. Great health and happiness stem from healthy breathing.
“We are an accumulation of our thoughts” Buddha
Our thoughts, our perceptions, our beliefs shape our realities. Through positive thinking, positive actions, positive intentions, we can become the great person we want to be. Being healthy, being happy, feeling good, doing good, all stem from our thoughts and perceptions and beliefs. Believing, knowing, that we are good people, that we are healthy, that we are choosing to view life as all things serving a Common Good, is essential to making all of that reality. Yoga Zion assists students in learning good skills that will make our life’s better, through the Yoga class practice and through out our daily life’s.
Zion -
A state of conscious, a place of eternal bliss and of endless peace and of perfect harmony, Nirvana, Heaven, Shangri La; an internal state of peace, calm and joy during Yoga practice with harmony among mind, body, and spirit.
Yoga Changes Your Life
People ask, “Will my smoking (or drinking, or over-eating, or whatever) interfere with Yoga?” The answer: “No. Yoga interferes with your smoking (or drinking, or over-eating, or whatever).” Yoga interferes with/changes your life. When you make the choice to practice Yoga on a regular basis, Yoga becomes a part of your life. A person’s mind-set changes. They begin to view life in a different way. They become more healthy, in many ways, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and yes, even physically. These changes come about in a gentle manner. One is not ‘forced’ to eat healthy or stop drinking or smoking, no! A person makes these changes because they want to, because it feels ‘right.’ A regular practitioner of Yoga makes up their mind about making any adjustments to their life style they feel is in their best interest. When an adjustment is needed, then one just does it, with ease and grace. A regular practitioner of Yoga makes these life changes because they want to, not because they feel ‘forced’ into it. These changes can even go unnoticed by the regular practitioner of Yoga. Maybe a friend or a family member will say “Hey, you… (whatever), have changed, stopped doing this, look great, etc.
“Sure, but I have to go everyday and work hard and doing lots of hard poses I will never be able to do and look silly doing it, right?” No. Two or three classes a week, even going once per week is enough. Yoga, as with life, is only hard if you make it that way. Yoga is kind and gentle. Especially in Yoga Zion classes, a regular practitioner of Yoga never does any poses they find to be painful. There is NO “no pain, no gain” philosophy in Yoga. In Yoga, there is no ego, no judgment. Yoga Zion classes are done with low lighting and in a comfortable, relaxing environment. Most people prefer doing Yoga with their eyes closed, anyway, so the only person who would notice your silliness would be you.
“Ok, so how?” By focusing on the “moment,” to the here and now. A regular practitioner of Yoga, when practicing, keeps their attention on their breathing and on the present moment. They focus on listening to their bodies, making any adjustments to maximize the benefits of the pose and of the practice. Through practice, through repetition of poses, a person becomes more comfortable with the practice. They become more confident in themselves and their abilities. Each day, a person’s body is different. Each day, a person’s body and mind go through ups and downs. Keeping this in mind helps one to understand that they do not have to do every pose perfectly every time.
Our inner World shapes our outer World. With higher confidence comes higher self-esteem. With higher self-esteem comes greater accomplishments, more joy, more happiness, better health, better humans.
About our Teachers:
We practice Yoga for the pure enjoyment of the practice, for the experience. We know that Yoga is a means to help our life’s be better.
We teach our classes knowing that anyone can benefit from yoga. We empower our students to make decisions about their bodies and their minds. When newcomers enter our classes, we welcome them and assist them to a have a positive experience. We ask them about their experience levels and use the walk-crawl-run method of teaching our classes.
Our Yoga classes flow, as if dancing, with smooth transitions in and out of and into the next poses. We offer modifications and provide clear prompts. Our focus is on breathing, safety, being healthy, being happy, with positive thoughts, positive intentions, and positive actions. Our teachers have full participation in the class while teaching, never asking anyone to do poses they can not do, nor asking anyone to do poses our teachers can not do themselves.
We enjoy being students of many types of philosophy and exploring new ideas. We incorporate these ideas into our class teachings and into our daily life’s, yet, knowing that not all ideas may fit our classes or into other‘s life‘s. We are all free to make our own choices.
ALL of our teachers are certified in Yoga and CPR/First Aid.
